Welcome to The Unseen Classroom.

I’m a teacher nearing the end of my career. Over the past 5–10 years, I’ve seen significant changes in education that concern me. 

I worry about the direction things are heading.  I worry for the future of Canada. I know that sounds dramatic, but it is a real concern for me even though most people don’t seem to see it.  The students I teach today will be tomorrow’s politicians, doctors, lawyers, engineers—all the people who shape our country. I don’t feel the system is preparing them as well as it should, and I can’t help wondering where that leaves us.

Over the past decade, I’ve occasionally reached out to news outlets and policymakers about some of these issues, but I have never received a response. 

When I first had the idea for this blog, I really just needed a place to vent. I didn’t even care if anyone read it. I pictured it as my own online diary more than anything else.

Lately though, there’s a small hope that maybe someone will read it, and maybe something will come from it.  I am not even sure what that “something” is.
